Brain Gym

Physical activity has been proven to increase cognitive function, focus, memory and self esteem while simultaneously decreasing the risk for anxiety, depression and stress. Research has even shown that exercise prevents and treats disorders such as ADHD, depression and anxiety. Aerobic exercise increases the size of the hippocampus (part of the brain used for memory and critical thinking) and stimulates the release of endorphins, dopamine and serotonin (neurotransmitters that help people to feel happy). Additionally, exercise reduces both insulin resistance and inflammation, and it promotes the development of new blood vessels and supports the abundance and survival of new brain cells. Exercise also helps with sleep quality, which has a huge impact on mental health and cognitive function. Children who develop the healthy habit of regular exercise will benefit immensely throughout their lives.
